Jan 25, 2025

Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has urged Corps members deployed to the state to “become a symbol of unity” and play a vital role in fostering unity and promoting a sense of common identity among Nigerians.

Speaking through the Commissioner for Youths Development, Mr Alfred Kemepado Nimizigha, during the opening/swearing-in ceremony of the 2024 Batch C, Stream 2 orientation course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Boro Town, Bayelsa State, Governor Diri expressed concerns over the rising divisions among Nigerians along ethnic, religious, and geopolitical lines.

He encouraged Corps members to be “beacons of hope” for the nation, emphasising their enormous responsibility in shaping Nigeria’s future. “You have the power to bring people together, to foster unity, and promote a sense of common identity that will propel our country forward,” he said.

Governor Diri assured the Corps members of the state government’s commitment to their safety and well-being, promising to protect and support them throughout their service year.

He also encouraged them to take advantage of the vast opportunities in the state for personal development and to serve as worthy ambassadors of the NYSC.

The State Coordinator, Mrs. Okpalifo Obiageli Charity, thanked Governor Diri for his immense support to the NYSC and advised Corps members to embrace the service year with seriousness, shunning social vices and actions detrimental to the scheme’s image.
