
In a significant milestone in the fight against terrorism, the Nigeria Police Force has neutralized three deadly terrorist kingpins associated with the Eastern Security Network (ESN) in Imo State.
The operation, which took place on January 24, 2025, was carried out by operatives from the Imo State Police Command’s tactical unit, following credible intelligence.
The police operatives located the terrorists’ hideout in a forest within Ihube, Okigwe LGA, and engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle after coming under heavy fire.
The operation resulted in the neutralization of six members of the terrorist group, including the three ESN kingpins: Ifeanyi Anayo (28), Chukwuemeka Odionyenfe (22), and Kingsley Sunday (21).
The police also recovered several dangerous weapons and assets, including:
– _Five AK-47 rifles_
– _552 rounds of live ammunition_
– _Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs)_
– _Several communication equipment_
– _Eight operational motorcycles_
Prior investigations revealed that the group was involved in several high-profile crimes, including the attack on the Owerri Correctional Center, the killing of five policemen, and multiple kidnappings.
In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Nigeria Police Force confirmed the operation and commended the operatives for their bravery and coordination.
“The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commends the gallant operatives for their exceptional display of bravery and coordination. The IGP charges police operatives across commands and formations to sustain the tempo and implement the Force’s action plan aimed at reducing crimes drastically in the first quarter of the year 2025,” the statement read.
ACP Adejobi also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and work collaboratively with the Nigeria Police Force to promote peace and ensure a safer environment for all citizens.
