Ijaw National Leader, Chief Edwin Clark, Dies at 97

Chief Edwin Clark, former Federal Commissioner for Information and prominent South-South leader, is dead.

A statement  by his family confirms that the Chairman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) died on Monday night. He was 97 years old.

“The Clark-Fuludu Bekederemo family of Kiagbodo Town, Delta State, announces the passing of Chief (Dr.) Sen. Edwin Kiagbodo Clark OFR, CON, on Monday, February 17, 2025.”

“Born in Kiagbodo, in the Ijaw area of present-day Delta State, the late Chief Clark received his primary and secondary education in Effurun, Okrika, and Afugbene. He continued his studies at the Government Teacher Training College, now Delta State University, Abraka. Following a brief period as a school teacher, he pursued a law degree abroad.”

“He served in the administrations of Military Governor Samuel Ogbemudia and Head of State General Yakubu Gowon between 1966 and 1975. In 1966, he was a member of the advisory committee to the Military Governor of the Mid-Western Region, David Ejoor, and in 1975, he was appointed Federal Commissioner of Information.”
