2,850 Trainees Benefit from Diri Skills Acquisition and Empowerment Programme

Two thousand, eight hundred and fifty trainees have benefitted from a skills acquisition and empowerment scheme by the Bayelsa State Government.
At the ceremony of the Diri Skills Acquisition and Empowerment held at the Gabriel Okara Cultural Centre in Yenagoa, Governor Douye Diri reiterated the readiness of the Administration to enhancing the human resource base of the State.
Governor Douye Diri explained that the present Administration decided to focus on investing in science, technical and vocational education as a measure to solve the unemployment challenges while enabling individuals to be self-reliant by creating their own businesses.
The Governor stated that with plans to own an independent power supply for constant electricity supply by the end of this year, the state government would create the conducive atmosphere for small and medium enterprises to thrive.
While urging the people of the State to embrace farming, aquaculture and fishing, he warned the beneficiaries against selling the starter packs but make best use of them.
Earlier, the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Entrepreneurship Development, Mrs. Charity Kens-Godwin who expressed gratitude to the Administration for supporting the scheme since 2021 said after over five months of intensive training, 2850 students benefitted from the skills acquisition programme which is in its third phase.
Some of the beneficiaries were full of appreciation to the Governor Diri led Administration, promising to use the skills acquired to improve their lives and contribute to the development of Bayelsa State.
