A group of Niger Delta has appealed to the youths and stakeholders in the region to sheath their swords and rally round Mr. Effiong Okon-Akwa, the newly appointed Interim Administrator of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.
Mr. Effiong Okon Akwa, until his appointment by President Mohammed Buhari, was the Ag. Executive Director, Finance and Administration of the Commission, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, and a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
The group under the aegis of the Leadership, Peace and Cultural Development Initiative (LPCDI) said Mr. Okon Akwa is a round peg in a hole that has wealth of experience to bring to bear at the commission which is bedeviled with all manners of maladministration and sleaze by previous administrations.
Clifford Wilson, President, LPCDI, in a statement said the appeal to all the stakeholders in the region Interim Administrator deliver on the core mandate of the Commission without distraction and occasioned selfish interest to derail him for serving people of the region who are desperately in need of development.
”Currently the commission is facing a lot of challenges ranging from finances and legal battles and only some who is trained in such fields can savage the situation. And as such we must ensure our people succeed in their given appointments. We should desist from casting aspersions and condemnations at any given time owing to selfish interests. ”
Mr. Okon-Akwa is a proven character who has his work cut out for as his pedigree speak for him while working with the former Managing Director, Dan Abia were facilitated the training and empowerment hundreds of youth to South-Africa which they are earning a living from today ”.
” Even as he assumed office, we have it on good authority that he has commenced payment of outstanding of some little contracts owed by the Commission which the Interim Management Committee led by Prof. Kemebradikumo Pondei. The sacked MD, IMC made a caricature of the entire commission with white elephants projects and almost grounded it.
The LPCDI which made up of Phase one ex-militant leaders expressed their appreciation to President Mohammed Buhari over Mr. Okon-Akwa appointment and pledge total support for his administration.
” We want to thank Mr. President Mohammed Buhari over this appointment and call for necessary resources to the Commission at charging his core duties while pledging total support .”
