Conflicts and rivalry among youth group in Escravos and Forcas areas of Warri South West in Delta State is threatening to breach the security surveillance jobs of protecting the strategic 87-kilometre Trans Forcados Pipeline (TFP) by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) which had in 2018 had awarded the contract of protecting the oil infrastructure surveillance contract to an indigenous firm, Ocean Marine Solutions for the protection of the strategic 87-kilometre Trans Forcados Pipeline (TFP) due to the loss of over $800m (N244.8bn) to breaches in the Pipeline.
The Trans Forcados Pipeline pumps crude to the Forcados Export Terminal, operated by Royal Dutch Shell Plc. The Forcados Oil Pipeline System is the second largest network in the Niger Delta
The rising rivalry and conflicts of confidence among youth groups and communities around the Gbramatu kingdom in the last few years is threatening to breach the security jobs being done to security the oil pipelines.
Confirming the development to leadership yesterday, the Chairman, Kunukunuma Federated Communities, Chief Moses Bebenimibo, expressed the displeasure and disappointment over recent activities of a self-styled and misguided group, identified as Warri Escravos and Forcados Central Youths, on the on-going peaceful oil facilities surveillance contract being executed by the indigenous company, Ocean Marine Solutions Limited in Escravos and Forcados.
According to Ordinarily, Chief Moses Bebenimibo,”It is no longer a secret that Ocean Marine Solutions Ltd in conjunction with various oil-bearing communities’ leadership for about five years now, has successfully secured oil facilities in Escravos and environs. There has not been acrimony and rancor since this contract was awarded to the company. It is worthy of note that the communities’ leadership has always find peaceful means in resolving issues that likely arise.”
“ For us, that is the most acceptable way to resolve industrial issues and not by obvious blackmail and name dropping. To the best of our knowledge, community youths are the most beneficiaries of the job slots given out by the contractor. It is pertinent to mention here that there is no way all the community youths will be engaged in just one surveillance contract. But we make bold to say that majority of our youths are benefiting from the contract”.
“It is a well known fact that, it was the success of the contract at Escravos and Environs that earned Ocean Marine Solutions Ltd the Forcados axis of the same contract, which was being handled by another contractor last year. This is a clear testimony of hard work and dedication to duty”.
Bebeminibo however called on security agencies to investigate the activities of these youth groups in the area, “We wish to at this juncture call on Nigerian security agencies to investigate the activities of this group to unravel those that are behind them as this contract has lasted for about five years as we earlier mentioned. So, what has gone wrong now, that let to this sudden attack by the group? Where was this group in the last five years? It is obvious that this group is a fifth columnist that is trying to discredit the good work of Ocean Marine Solutions Ltd.”
“It is on this final note that we wish to appeal to the Federal Government of Nigeria to continue to support the company to discharge its duty, particularly in this time of the outbreak of covid 19 pandemic that may likely affect our economy”.
