Spokesman of the Rivers State Police Command, SP Nnamdi Omoni has dismissed reports linking Thursday’s attack at the operational base of it’s Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Oyigbo Local Government Area to a protest carried out by members of the IPOB or any other group in the area.

Similarly, President of Oyigbo Youth Association, Victor Nwachukwu has exonerated indigenes of Oyigbo of the attack.

Omoni who confirmed the attack did not however reveal the identity of the policeman killed.

But a source within the command confided in City News that the casualty is an officer recently posted from Enugu.

Omoni said the attack was not triggered by a protest carried out by members of IPOB in Oyigbo.

Omoni, however, said more details of the incident will be disclosed to the public later.

Nwachukwu on his part said a newly built SARS office in the area was burnt by the suspected hoodlums including two operational vehicles.
