Police in Delta state command said its men have rescued four among several travelers that were kidnapped in multiple vehicles by gunmen along the Umvwiamuge-Agbarho Junction near the Urhobo House in Agbarho, Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state.
On Wednesday, gunmen laid ambush on vehicles plying the highway shooting sporadic and whiskey away many passengers to an unknown destination.
Speaking on rescuing the captives, Public Relations Officer of the state police command, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya on Thursday, said four persons have been released while the effort to secure other has been intensified.
”The incident happened on Wednesday evening at about 6 p.m, a few kilometers from Beta Glass bottling company. The Police cannot ascertain the exact number of how persons that were kidnapped. The kidnappers have only made the calls to one person which is the husband to one of the female victims. Several persons were kidnapped but we don’t know the exact number for now. ”
”Right from the time the incident happened, our men have been in the bush trying to rescue the victims and also apprehend the hoodlums. The kidnappers were repelled by the Dragon Patrol team on the highway. If not, it would have been worse than what it is.”
”We don’t know if anybody was killed. But one wounded person was rescued during the incident.”
